IMPERIAL JAPANESE ARMY, 55th REGIMENT / 18th DIVISION (1914)
A few of us have decided to put together an additional Japanese impression outside of our usual time period of World War 2. Not many people know that Japan was actually involved in the First World War, and we saw it as an opportunity to learn more about the Imperial Japanese Army, as well as educate other reenactors and the public.
In August 1914, the Empire of Japan joined the Allies and declared war on Germany and Austo-Hungary. They mainly did this in order to take possession of German colonies in China for the empire. The main land battle that Japan was involved in during this time was the Siege of Tsingtao in October of 1914. The siege was over in less than a month and Germany, unable to hold out against overwhelming odds, surrendered its colonies in China and the Pacific to Japan.
The Mid West Great War Living History Association (MWGWLHA) based out of Top Squadron Field near Parsons, Kansas, has established a trench site and battle field where any and all authentic Great War reenacting impressions are accepted. Because of this, we have been welcomed to participate in reenactments there, and have put a lot of time and effort into our impressions to make them as accurate as possible.
If you are interested in joining us out at Top Squadron Field sometime, I have put together a list of requirements necessary to complete the impression. Please see below:
